ICE: In Case of Emergency APP for cell phones.
The blog Prepared Housewives, article
I'm going to be looking at some of these apps and giving some feedback... I agree that apps can definitely play a big part of prepping.
The first app I'm looking at is ICE, it should be a standard app installed on every phone in my opinion. Well some version of ICE, that is. For those of you who are wondering what is ICE.....In Case of Emergency. Jamie's version, I didn't find but did compare several others. It seems they all do some version of the basic information and from there it depends on if you want the free versions or a pay version.
Why? Are you wondering why I believe this should be a standard app on every phone. One of the main reason is for medical personal, EMT, Firemen, Paramedics, ER doctor and staff. If you are in an a accident of some sort and are unconscious or unable to speak or just confused but you are carrying a phone with personal information then the medical personal can access that information. This information may help play a role in a life and death situation. Two, all of the apps I looked at have a way for call for emergency assistance or sending a message to a love one that you need help. Three, some of the apps have GPS coordinates that are sent along with your message; so if you are lost and need help....they can find you.
Just beware, don't hit the send button if you have 911 listed as an emergency number in the settings...I hit the send message button, thinking it would go to my husband (because the info below states it will send a message to all people listed on your contact list) and 911 called asking if I had an emergency. My husband was laughing and I was so embarrassed.

This is the description of the app from the maker of ICEcard
"Description ICEcard is a convenient way to store information needed by rescuers and doctors, if you are a victim of an emergency. In addition to a list of contacts of the closes persons, it also allows you to save information about taken medications, passed diseases, allergies and other health information. Thanks to the ability of creating multiple profiles, the program can also become a useful database for medical information about family members or other close persons.A special alarm button allows to send in critical situation, an emergency sms message to all the people from your contact list, containing among others data collected from mobile phone’s GPS, so that the closest persons become instantly informed about serious life-threatening situations and receive information about the current position of the user.Just one click on the screen to let your loved ones know that you need help!ICEcard application is free of advertisement."
I like this app because I could create multiple profiles for each of my family members with all their medical history. It never fails I get to a doctor appointment with one of my kids or myself and they want to know something that at the moment slips my mind. I can just pull up this app where I have everything recorded.
One of the reviews stated that some information should be on the front page, and I totally agree. Coming from a medical background, Anticoagulation therapy, implants or prosthesis and organ donor should not be on the last page.
And this app is free! There is a fee of $.25, if you want multiple messages to send to multiple land line phones, the first land line message is free (not sure if this is from the app or my cell phone service, I just received a text message when I sent a test to my home phone....)

Some of the reviews are complaining of the lock screen that it places on your cell phone. This in my opinion is a great thing, yes it is annoying to have your cell phone lock and now this emergency app lock. But the purpose of this is to allow your personal medical info accessible to medical personal. If your phone is lock with a password and you are unconscious the medical personal can't access it. With the app lock, medical personal would just tap the app lock and it opens up. Or just swipe the unlock key and then my normal lock screen appears.
So this app in the free form ...so - so, but I think the upgraded version for $1.98 would be worth the money.
